Daily Word Ladder
One puzzle a day, the same for everyone. Turn the start word into the target word by changing, adding or deleting one letter at a time. Every step must be a real word. Fewer steps is better.

Yesterday's ladder:
How it works
- You start on the start word. Type a word that is exactly one move away: change one letter, add one letter, or delete one letter.
- The new word must be a real word of 3 to 15 letters, and you cannot use the same word twice.
- Keep going until you reach the target word. Par is the fewest steps possible through everyday words. You can beat par if you know a rarer word that is also on the game's word list.
- Share your result as a row of squares. Green is a step within par, yellow is a step over par. A new puzzle starts every day at 00:00 UTC, and the week gets harder: Monday is the easiest and Sunday is the hardest.
Example: LAST → LOST → LOT → SLOT turns LAST into SLOT in 3 steps: change A to O, delete S, add S at the start.
Questions
Is the puzzle the same for everyone?
Yes. Everyone gets the same start word and target word each day, so you can compare results with friends.
Does it keep my streak?
Your chain and your streak are saved in this browser on this device. They are not sent to us, and clearing your site data removes them.
Why did the game refuse my word?
The word must be on the game's word list (about 168,000 words, no names) and exactly one move away from your current word. The message tells you which one failed.
Can I play against a person instead?
Yes. Last Word is a two-player version of the same idea: you take turns, and the player who can still move wins.
